Help with DPM 2012 R2 RU7 protecting SP 2013 farm with SQL 2012 AlwaysOn

Been dealing with issue 3 days now and I'm out of ideas.  First let me say that I'm the DPM admin for the company, and don't know the insides and outs of Sharepoint.  I do know that we run a Sharepoint 2013 farm, and just enabled Always On on the SQL 2012 SP2 backend servers.  Protection worked great before Always On was enabled.  Now...not so much.

Now, all backups to that SQL instance fail with ID 30172.  Details: Internal error code: 0x80990F75.  The SQL instance refuses the connection to the protection agent.

I've gone through all the usual steps.  The SP/SQL admin had already previously added DPMRA to the sysadmin role, so I know that's not the answer.  NT SERVICE\SYSTEM has also been added, just in case with no effect.

So I ran across this: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2769094.  Seems to fit the bill, however the SP admin says that we can't switch to a readable secondary as supposedly it will cause corruption and all kinds of issues should it failover.

The documentation I can find says that DPM 2012R2 RU5 and above support a SP 2013 farm, running SQL Always On for content databases.  But I can't find any good information on how to fix this.  Does anybody have experience with this or know if it actually works?

Thanks,

Chris
